Dalhousie Hill Station India

A stunning and peaceful hill station among the western Himalayas filled with charm that is beyond description. This hill station was established in the mid 19th century and got its name from Lord Dalhousie, the then British Viceroy in India.

Dalhousie is at the edge of the main spurs of Dhauladhars range of the Himalayas. The view is magnificent to the north bordered by snow capped mountains of Pir Panjal Mountains of Kashmir and plains of Punjab to the south. The hill station is 6000- 9000 ft above sea level and it is one of the colonial retreats that are folded in greenery and crunchy air, and most of the times overwhelmed in white snow.

Dalhousie retains the ambience with Victorian and Scotish architecture that are clearly visible in the churches and bungalows of the town. The town spreads among five hills namely Kathlog, Bakrota, Portreyn, Balun and Tehra and the flora and fauna of the place is something worth mentioning. Dalhousie is always clothed expansively in the splendid groves of oaks and deodar. There is no denying the fact that Dalhousie has a rich cultural heritage and has many religious glories like churches and temples that are major tourist attractions.

The two busy points of the town are Gandhi Chowk and Subhash Chowk that are connected through a Mall road and the two roads are actually intertwined making a figure of eight. Dalhousie is known for its valley and hilly mountain terrains, panchpuls is really known for trekking and tourist can enjoy waterfalls, long walks, Tibetan markets, ride on ponies and above all the tranquil aura of the place.
